Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job SummaryWe are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with strong knowledge of mechanical components, engineering materials, vendor management, and purchasing activities. The candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing mechanical parts, equipment, raw materials, and engineering services while ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and source mechanical components, raw materials, tools, machinery, and engineering equipment.
• Understand mechanical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical requirements.
• Prepare RFQs and obtain quotations from suppliers.
• Compare vendor quotations based on price, quality, delivery time, and technical specifications.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other commercial conditions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers.
• Evaluate and qualify vendors based on quality, capability, cost, and delivery performance.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Stores, and Accounts departments for purchase requirements.
• Prepare and process Purchase Orders (POs) and follow up with suppliers until delivery.
• Ensure purchased materials meet approved specifications and quality requirements.
• Monitor supplier delivery schedules and resolve delays or supply issues.
• Maintain purchase records, vendor databases, quotations, comparative statements, and related documentation.
• Support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.
• Visit suppliers when required for technical discussions, inspections, or vendor development.
• Handle procurement of items such as bearings, gears, shafts, fasteners, motors, pumps, valves, fabricated parts, machined components, and other mechanical equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical purchase/procurement.
• Good knowledge of mechanical engineering components and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and BOMs.
• Good knowledge of materials such as MS, SS, aluminium, brass, etc.
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, casting, forging, and sheet-metal processes is preferred.
• Good negotiation, communication, and vendor-management skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/purchasing software.
• Ability to compare technical and commercial quotations effectively.
