A Marine Fabrication Supervisor manages daily metalwork, hull assembly, and structural repairs in a shipyard or marine manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Production: Direct teams of welders, fitters, and fabricators building or repairing ship hulls, decks, and marine structures.
- Read Blueprints: Interpret complex marine engineering drawings, welding symbols, and structural specifications.
- Monitor Quality: Check fit-ups, alignment, and welds to ensure compliance with marine standards like AWS or ASME.
- Enforce Safety: Maintain strict workplace safety rules for working with heavy machinery, hot work, and over-water environments.
- Manage Workflow: Assign daily tasks, track project milestones, and coordinate materials. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Requirements & Skills
- Experience: 3 to 5+ years of hands-on welding, structural fabrication, or shipyard supervisory experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong grasp of cutting, fitting, metal shaping, and welding processes (MIG, TIG, SMAW).
- Certifications: High school diploma or technical/trade certification; marine or mechanical engineering diplomas are a plus.
- Communication: Ability to lead a diverse crew, solve technical problems quickly, and report progress to plant managers. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
