Purpose
The Senior Director, Project Management is responsible for the successful delivery of a portfolio of complex projects and strategic client programs across their full lifecycle. The role provides leadership, governance, commercial oversight, and client stewardship to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with quality expectations.
The position serves as the senior point of accountability for project performance, driving delivery excellence, project governance, risk management, financial outcomes, and client satisfaction. The incumbent will partner closely with business leaders, clients, Project Directors, and delivery teams to ensure predictable and profitable project execution while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Role
As a Senior Project Director with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc
Project & Portfolio Leadership
- Provide leadership and strategic oversight for a portfolio of projects from initiation through close-out.
- Ensure projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
- Act as the senior escalation point for delivery, commercial, contractual, schedule, resource, and client issues.
- Lead project reviews, governance forums, and performance assessments to identify risks and drive corrective actions.
- Sponsor and support critical projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and client expectations.
Commercial & Financial Management
- Own portfolio financial performance, including revenue, profitability, cash flow forecasting, and margin delivery.
- Ensure effective contract administration, change management, variation control, and claims prevention.
- Drive disciplined project controls, forecasting accuracy, and financial transparency.
- Promote proactive risk identification, mitigation, and opportunity management throughout the project lifecycle.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the executive interface for strategic clients and key stakeholders.
- Build and sustain trusted client relationships that support long-term business growth.
- Lead discussions regarding project performance, risk, commercial outcomes, and future opportunities.
- Support major pursuits, proposals, and business development initiatives through delivery expertise and governance input.
Project Governance & Delivery Excellence
- Establish and enforce project governance frameworks, stage gate reviews, performance metrics, and assurance processes.
- Ensure compliance with the Project Delivery System, company policies, and client requirements.
- Drive lessons learned, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Champion project execution best practices across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and digital delivery functions.
Risk, Quality & HSE
- Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across all projects.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, ethics, quality, and risk management standards.
- Lead resolution of critical project risks and quality concerns before they impact delivery outcomes.
- Drive accountability for safety, quality, and operational excellence throughout the portfolio.
Digital Enablement & Continuous Improvement
- Sponsor digital and business improvement initiatives that enhance project predictability and performance.
- Promote data-driven decision making through project controls, performance analytics, and reporting tools.
- Support implementation and adoption of project systems and digital delivery platforms.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop Project Directors, Project Managers, and project leadership teams.
- Drive workforce planning, succession development, capability building, and talent retention.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and client success.
- Ensure effective project resourcing and leadership capability across the portfolio.
To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- 25+ years of experience delivering major capital projects in EPC, EPCM, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Energy, Infrastructure, Mining, or Industrial sectors.
- Significant experience managing large and complex project portfolios with accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and commercial outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership of multidiscipline project teams across multiple locations and stakeholders.
- Strong client-facing experience at executive level.
- Deep understanding of project governance, risk management, commercial management, and project controls.
- Proven ability to lead business transformation, continuous improvement, and organizational capability development.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
