Job Description
Job SummaryWe are looking for a Production Engineer with hands-on experience in the sheet metal industry who can independently manage production activities, coordinate material purchasing, and maintain quality control standards. The candidate should be technically strong, organized, and capable of coordinating with production, purchase, vendors, and customers to ensure timely delivery of quality products.
Key Responsibilities.
Production
- Plan, monitor, and control daily sheet metal production activities.
- Coordinate cutting, bending, punching, welding, grinding, assembly, and other fabrication processes.
- Prepare production schedules and ensure timely completion of jobs.
- Monitor machine utilization, manpower, productivity, and material consumption.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Reduce material wastage, rework, and production downtime.
- Maintain production records and reports.
Purchase & Material Management
- Identify material requirements based on production schedules and customer orders.
- Purchase sheet metal, consumables, hardware, and other production-related materials.
- Obtain quotations, compare prices, negotiate with suppliers, and place purchase orders.
- Coordinate with vendors regarding quality, delivery schedules, and material availability.
- Maintain minimum stock levels and ensure materials are available when required.
- Verify incoming materials against specifications, quantities, and purchase orders.
Quality Control
- Establish and maintain quality standards for sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Inspect raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
- Check dimensions using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and gauges.
- Ensure products comply with drawings, specifications, tolerances, and customer requirements.
- Maintain inspection reports, rejection/rework records, and quality documentation.
- Identify root causes of quality problems and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Coordinate with customers and suppliers on quality-related issues when required.
- Technical SkillsGood knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, GD&T, and BOMs.
- Knowledge of materials such as MS, SS, aluminium, GI, and other sheet metals.
- Understanding of laser cutting, shearing, CNC punching, press brake/bending, welding, and fabrication processes.
- Knowledge of basic quality systems and inspection procedures.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and production/quality reporting.
- ERP/MRP knowledge will be an advantage.
- Required QualificationsDiploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in sheet metal manufacturing or fabrication.
- Strong coordination, problem-solving, vendor-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Production output and on-time delivery.
- Material utilization and reduction in wastage.
- Purchase cost and material availability.
- Rejection and rework percentage.
- Customer complaints and quality performance.
- Machine and manpower productivity.
- Vendor quality and delivery performance.
