💢 DUTIES OF ICU NURSES.

🔸️**Patient Assessment:**

- Vital signs monitoring (heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation).

- Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) for neurological assessment.

🔸️**Airway Management:**

- Endotracheal intubation or other airway adjuncts.

- Continuous monitoring of airway patency and adequacy.

🔸️**Ventilator Support:**

- Mechanical ventilation parameters adjusted based on patient needs.

- Monitoring for complications such as ventilator-associated pneumonia.

🔸️**Hemodynamic Monitoring:**

- Continuous assessment of cardiac output, blood pressure, and central venous pressure.

- Fluid resuscitation and inotropic support as needed.

🫁Tracheostomy Care:

is an opening surgically created through the neck into the trachea (windpipe) to allow air to fill the lungs. After creating the tracheostomy opening in the neck, surgeons insert a tube through it to provide an airway and to remove secretions from the lungs.

🔸️**Infection Control:**

- Strict adherence to hand hygiene protocols.

Changing the Diapers/ Sponge bath etc,

and Isolation precautions for contagious diseases.

🔸️**Nutritional Support:**

- Enteral or parenteral nutrition based on the patient's condition.

RYLE'S TUBE FEEDING, PEG FEEDING, ETC,

- Regular monitoring of nutritional status.

🔸️**Pain Management:**

- Regular assessment of pain levels.

- Administration of analgesics and sedatives as required.

🔸️**Renal Support:**

- Monitoring urine output and renal function.

- Renal replacement therapy if necessary.

🔸️**Neuromuscular Blockade:**

- Use of neuromuscular blocking agents when indicated.

- Continuous monitoring for complications.

🔸️**Sedation Protocols:**

- Standardized sedation scales for titration of sedative medications.

- Regular assessment of sedation depth.

🔸️**Thromboprophylaxis:**

- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis with anticoagulant therapy.

- Sequential compression devices for immobilized patients.

🔸️**Metabolic and Glycemic Control:**

- Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels.

- Insulin therapy for glycemic control.

🔸️**Multidisciplinary Communication:**

- Regular interdisciplinary rounds to discuss patient status.

- Clear communication among healthcare team members.

🔸️**End-of-life Care:**

- Advance care planning and communication with patients and families.

- Palliative care interventions as needed.
