Job Description
Job Description: Assembly & Shop-Floor Head (Senior Mechanic / Trainer) Senior Mechanic | Trainer | EV Retrofit & Service Operations | Hyderabad Company: Morph Electric (AltNxt Energy Pvt Ltd) Location: Hyderabad Role Type: Training → Full-Time Conversion
Timings: 9 AM to 6.30 PM Experience: 2+ years (2W ICE / EV / Workshop Background preferred)
About Morph Electric We are a product and engineering-led startup building petrol 2-wheeler to electric conversion (retrofit) solutions . We design and develop key systems in-house, and our success depends on consistent quality, strict discipline and strong execution on the shop floor. We are not building a typical workshop — we are building a scalable operation with standards similar to tech-first EV companies. If you enjoy ownership, structure and building teams, Morph is the right place.
Role Overview This is not just a senior mechanic position. You will own day-to-day assembly, retrofit, service and shop-floor operations, building a disciplined mechanics team that can operate with minimum founder dependency. You are expected to plan work, allocate manpower, train juniors, solve vehicle problems, enforce standards and own the quality of every vehicle that leaves Morph. This role is about building people, systems and discipline on the shop floor
. Key Responsibilities _________________________
1. Assembly & Retrofit Operations: You will manage and execute end-to-end retrofit and assembly work, ensuring that every job is done systematically and not in an ad-hoc manner. You are expected to bring structure, repeatability, and reliability into the assembly process and gradually reduce dependency on founders for day-to-day execution.
2. Shop-Floor Management & Discipline: You will be responsible for planning daily work, allocating manpower, maintaining tools and workspace, and enforcing punctuality and discipline on the shop floor. Morph expects a clean, organized and professional workshop environment, and this responsibility rests with you.
3. Quality Control, Washing & Painting: You will own the quality of all vehicles before delivery, including final inspection, washing and coordination of painting or finishing work where required. Vehicles should be delivered only when they meet Morph’s quality expectations, not merely to meet timelines.
4. Service, Pickup & Delivery Coordination: You will plan and coordinate service activities, vehicle pickup and delivery after conversion. This includes scheduling work efficiently, training your team to handle service tasks responsibly, and ensuring customers receive vehicles on time and in proper condition.
5. Office Vehicle Service & Maintenance: Take responsibility for servicing and maintenance of all office-owned vehicles. Ensure vehicles are safe, functional, and well-maintained. Track service intervals, repairs, and maintenance needs
6. Tools & Equipment Management: Manage all mechanical, electrical, and workshop tools. Ensure tools are properly maintained and not misused. Identify and communicate tool requirements in advance
7. Stock Discipline for Workshop Items: Track and control usage of workshop consumables (nuts/bolts, tapes, connectors, gloves, cleaning, etc.). Reduce wastage and avoid last-minute shortages.
8. Spares, Vendors & Cost Control: Identify and maintain best-price vendors for routine spares, consumables and wear-and-tear parts. Source the right quality tools/equipment at the best value (avoid cheap items that fail repeatedly). Support management with vendor comparisons, quotations and recommendations.
9. Hiring, Training & Team Building: You will gradually build and train a team of mechanics and helpers under you. Your role includes training juniors, correcting mistakes, enforcing work discipline, and developing a self-sustaining shop-floor team that can scale as Morph grows.
10. Continuous Improvement (Speed + Quality): Introduce better techniques, jigs, fixtures and work methods to reduce cycle time and improve consistency. Train the team on new methods and enforce adoption. Focus on “do it right the first time” to reduce rework, delays, and quality issues.
11. Safety & Work Standards: Ensure safety practices are followed while lifting, cutting, wiring, welding, charging, and testing. Prevent avoidable accidents and damage to vehicles/tools.
12. Ownership & Accountability: This role requires a strong sense of ownership. You will be accountable for shop-floor output, quality consistency, discipline, and delivery commitments. Excuses, casual attitudes, or repeated mistakes are not acceptable in this role.
13. Engineering Feedback & Communication: Share structured feedback from the shop floor to the engineering/R&D team (fitment issues, repeat failures, time-consuming steps, quality risks)Communicate clearly on root causes, observations, and suggested fixes so engineering can improve designs and processes. Maintain basic documentation/photos where required for recurring issues and improvements
