JOB DESCRIPTION: Stores & Inventory Manager
Location: Howrah/Kolkata, West Bengal
Department: Stores & Inventory
Reports To: Factory Manager / Management
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Job PurposeThe Stores & Inventory Manager will be responsible for the complete management and control of the company's raw materials, components, consumables, work-in-progress (WIP), finished goods and other inventory.
The person will ensure that materials are properly received, inspected, stored, issued and recorded, while maintaining accurate physical and system stock at all times.
Key Responsibilities1. Material Receiving
- Receive raw materials, components and consumables from suppliers.
- Verify quantities against Purchase Orders, invoices and delivery documents.
- Coordinate with Quality/Production for material inspection where required.
- Prepare and maintain GRN/receiving records.
- Report shortages, excesses, damages or discrepancies immediately.
2. Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate stock records for all materials.
- Assign and maintain proper material codes, descriptions and units of measurement.
- Maintain minimum/maximum and reorder levels.
- Monitor stock availability and highlight upcoming shortages to management.
- Identify slow-moving, excess, obsolete and damaged inventory.
3. Material Issue & Production Control
- Issue materials to production against authorised material requisitions.
- Maintain records of material consumption.
- Track material movement between different production processes.
- Maintain WIP records for components moving through cutting, pressing, welding, finishing, assembly and other processes.
- Record material returns and unused material coming back from production.
4. Finished Goods
- Maintain accurate finished-goods stock.
- Coordinate with Production and Dispatch for finished-goods availability.
- Ensure proper identification, tagging and storage of finished products.
- Maintain dispatch and stock-out records.
5. Stock Verification
- Conduct regular physical stock counting.
- Reconcile physical stock with system/register balances.
- Investigate and report stock differences.
- Implement cycle-counting procedures for important/high-value materials.
6. Documentation & Reporting Maintain proper records for:
- GRN / material receipt
- Material issue
- Material return
- Stock transfer
- Production consumption
- Finished-goods receipt
- Dispatch
- Stock adjustment
- Rejection/damage
- Physical stock verification
Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inventory reports for management.
7. Coordination Coordinate closely with:
- Purchase
- Production / Press Shop
- Quality
- Accounts
- Dispatch
- Management
- Required Qualifications & ExperienceGraduate preferred; candidates with relevant diploma/technical qualifications may also be considered.
- 3–7 years of experience in stores/inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
- Experience with sheet-metal, fabrication, automobile, engineering or similar manufacturing industries will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control and documentation.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel.
- Experience with ERP/inventory software will be an advantage.
- Desired SkillsStrong numerical and analytical ability.
- Good understanding of material codes and part numbers.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Strong discipline regarding documentation.
- Ability to identify stock discrepancies.
- Ability to manage a busy factory stores environment.
- Honest, responsible and detail-oriented.
- Ability to supervise store assistants/helpers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)The candidate will be evaluated on:
- Stock accuracy
- Reduction in stock discrepancies
- Timely material availability for production
- Proper documentation
- Reduction of excess/obsolete inventory
- Timely stock reporting
- Proper storage and identification
- Control of material wastage/loss
- Accuracy of WIP and finished-goods records
Working ConditionsThe role will primarily be factory-based and will require regular coordination with the production and dispatch areas.
Salary: As per experience and suitability.
Preferred Candidate: A person who has independently handled stores/inventory in a small or medium-sized manufacturing factory and can bring discipline and proper stock-control systems to the organisation.
