Summary Section  

Furnace Mechanical Engineer with 4–7 years of relevant experience in the mechanical design and detailing of process fired heaters/Reformers/Cracker used in the Refinery, Petrochemical and Fertilizer industries.

The candidate should have worked with a reputed EPC, Technology Licensor, Furnace/Heater Engineering Company and should have a good understanding of furnace mechanical design, pressure parts, coils, refractory systems, and associated equipment.

The role will involve furnace engineering activities from design basis and equipment sizing through detailed engineering, in accordance with applicable codes, project specifications, and constructability requirements, as well as providing engineering support to procurement, fabrication, construction, and site installation activities.

 

Skill set & Responsibilities: 

• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles for Fired Heaters and Reformers.
• Good understanding of codes and standards applicable to furnace engineering, including API 560, API 530, API 535, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section I, and other relevant international codes and standards.
• Ability to interpret process, piping, equipment, and furnace layout information and incorporate relevant requirements into the mechanical design.
• Develop thermal and mechanical design requirements in alignment with project-specific requirements.
• Prepare Furnace BOQ/MTO estimates for proposals and projects.
• Perform Pressure Part Calculation for Heater/Ethylene/Reformer Tubes, Inlet System, Transfer Line by API/ASME B31.3/ASME SEC I/ ASME SecVIII DivI.
• Perform design of Heater Coil supports (Radiant tube support brackets, Convection intermediate tube supports & Coil inlet/Outlet Terminal support etc.
• Review of Refractory Design and Calculation
• Prepare technical requisitions for key furnace components such as Burners, Tubes, Spring Supports, Air Pre-Heaters (APH), and other associated equipment, based on project/client requirements.
• Perform Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) of vendor offers and prepare technical bid summaries/recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and technical documents for furnace auxiliary equipment such as Air Pre-Heaters (APH), Burners, ID/FD Fans, Soot Blowers, Dampers, Shut-off Blades, Expansion Bellows, and      

 

Qualifications including Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Approximately 4-7 years of Furnace Mechancial design experience in an EPC company, Furnace/Heater Company or Engineering Consultancy.
• Hands-on experience of Mechancial design of components of different types of Fired Heaters. Ammonia / Hydrogen Reformers, Cracking Furnaces.
• Experience in working on International/Global Projects and with multi-location engineering teams will be an added advantage.
