Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Team Leader)

Job Description overview

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer / Team Lead will oversee the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and products, He / She should have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to guide junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards, project timelines, and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

·       Lead mechanical design projects from concept to completion.

·       Supervise and mentor junior design engineers, ensuring quality and efficiency.

·       Develop and review 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and design documentation.

·       Perform advanced design calculations (stress, load, tolerance, fatigue analysis).

·       Coordinate with cross-functional teams (projects, Purchase, Vendor development, manufacturing, Quality, Installation and commissioning).

·       Conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to industry standards

·       Identify risks, propose solutions, and ensure timely project delivery.

·       Drive innovation in product design and process optimization.

·       Liaise with supplier / vendors and clients for technical discussions and approvals.

·       Conduct internal and external meetings on Design and project schedule reviews

·       Fluent in creating 3Dand 2D modelling and drawings, design configurations, Parametric modelling, Design standardization using design software such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, CATIA and AutoCAD.

·       Prepare documentation for design reviews and compliance checks, like Design Standard check list, Engineering Release note, pre-release procedure, Engineering Design change and revisions, review meeting reports (MOM – Internal / External)

·       Support manufacturing, assembly, installation, and commissioning activities.

·       Provide technical support in resolving design and production-related issues.

Key Skills Required:

·       Strong in Leader ship and Team managing skills (Minimum of 3 to 5 Jr. Engineers)

·       Good in presentation skills,

·       Exposure to ERP systems, PDM and PLM tools.

·       Familiar with Design Simulation and analysis software

·       Experience in supplier management and compliance documentation.

·       Knowledge of industry-specific standards

·       Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines

·       Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.

·       Proficiency in SolidWorks /Solid Edge/ CATIA and AutoCAD.

·       Well experience in understanding of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or special purpose machines (SPMs).

·       Knowledge of design standards and safety compliance.

·       Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

·       Good in creation of Concepts, Visualization, Design and Development

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

·       6–10 years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.

·       Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, CATIA, AutoCAD, or equivalent).

·       Strong knowledge of GD&T, material science, and manufacturing processes.

·       Experience with FEA Structural static and dynamic tools for validation and optimization.

·       Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
