Job Title

Job Summary
The Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of DC battery chargers, FC/FCBC chargers, battery banks, DCDB panels, and associated equipment at customer sites such as substations, power plants, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Activities
- Install battery chargers, rectifier modules, battery banks, and DCDB panels as per approved drawings and manufacturer guidelines.
- Verify AC input supply, earthing, cable sizing, polarity, and termination.
- Supervise battery installation and inter-cell connections.
- Ensure proper labeling and housekeeping at the site.
Testing & Commissioning
- Conduct pre-commissioning inspections and insulation checks.
- Configure charger parameters such as float voltage, boost voltage, current limit, and alarm settings.
- Perform functional testing of FC and FCBC modes.
- Check annunciation, alarms, indications, and communication interfaces (if applicable).
- Carry out battery charging, discharge tests, and performance verification.
- Record all commissioning parameters and obtain customer approval signatures.
Troubleshooting & Service Support
- Diagnose faults in rectifier modules, control cards, contactors, fuses, transformers, and battery systems.
- Attend breakdown and emergency service calls.
- Replace defective components/modules and restore system operation.
- Prepare root cause analysis (RCA) reports for major failures.
Documentation
- Submit commissioning reports, service reports, and site visit reports.
- Maintain records of voltage, current, battery readings, and test results.
- Update the service coordinator regarding site progress and spare requirements.
- Support warranty claim documentation.
Customer Coordination
- Coordinate with customer engineers, project managers, and contractors during installation and commissioning.
- Provide basic operational training to customer personnel.
- Explain maintenance procedures and safety precautions.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow PPE and electrical safety procedures at all times.
- Adhere to LOTO (Lock Out / Tag Out) practices.
- Ensure safe handling of batteries and charging equipment.
- Report any unsafe conditions immediately.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- 1–5 years of experience in DC battery chargers, UPS systems, substations, or industrial power systems.
- Freshers with strong electrical fundamentals may also be considered for trainee positions.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of DC battery chargers (24V / 48V / 110V / 220V).
- Understanding of VRLA and Plante battery banks.
- Ability to read GA drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Familiarity with multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and battery testing instruments.
- Basic knowledge of rectifier modules, SMPS systems, and control circuits.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay at project sites.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently under site conditions.
- Valid driving license is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Substation DC systems (33kV / 11kV / 132kV / 220kV).
- FCBC charger commissioning.
- Battery discharge testing and capacity testing.
- Coordination with utilities such as TRANSCO, DISCOM, and industrial clients.
Sample Daily Duties
- Inspect installed charger and battery bank.
- Verify AC input and DC output parameters.
- Configure float/boost settings.
- Conduct alarm and annunciation tests.
- Perform battery charging/discharge checks.
- Prepare commissioning report and obtain customer sign-off.
- Update head office with site status and spare requirements.
