About the Role

The Associate Director, Control Testing - Markets plays a critical role in strengthening the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) framework by identifying opportunities to centrally monitor and test controls at scale, driving sustainable risk outcomes across Global Markets.

The role is accountable for supporting the execution of the Control Self-Assessment (CSA) framework in partnership with Control Owners across Global Markets. Working across products, processes, and value chains within the First Line of Defence, the incumbent will apply data-driven approaches to assess control design and operating effectiveness, identify control weaknesses and thematic issues, and drive well-prioritised remediation actions.

The role will champion continuous improvement in control design, automation, monitoring coverage, and testing methodologies while ensuring testing activities are governed, traceable, timely, and aligned with enterprise risk management standards and regulatory expectations. Success in this role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, analytical capability, and the ability to influence risk-aware decision making across the business.

What will your day look like?

What will you bring?

• 15+ years' experience in Global Markets, Institutional Banking, Risk Management, Non-Financial Risk, Controls Assurance, Internal Audit, or related financial services environments.
• Strong experience in control testing, monitoring, assurance, audit, risk assessment, and control governance.
• Sound understanding of Global Markets products, processes, and associated non-financial risks.
• Knowledge of control design and operating effectiveness testing methodologies.
• Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to identify control weaknesses, assess risks, perform root-cause analysis, and support remediation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Experience applying data-driven approaches to control testing and monitoring.
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills.
• Ability to present complex findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching and developing team members.
• Strong planning, prioritization, organizational, and project management skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to governance, quality, and compliance.
• Experience enhancing control monitoring, testing, automation, or reporting capabilities.
• Exposure to regulatory remediation, risk transformation, or control uplift initiatives.
• Experience working within governance, risk, compliance, audit, or assurance frameworks.
• Experience using analytics, reporting, or visualization tools.
• Knowledge of operational resilience, conduct risk, technology risk, third-party risk, and regulatory change management.
