We are seeking a highly skilled and technically adept Software Development Manager for Prime Video Advertising org who can lead both crafts on it: the data-platform and pipeline charter at its core, and the software and GenAI systems work that is its future. You'll own the team's people, delivery, architecture direction, and operational health end-to-end — building a new team, taking full ownership of a live platform through a structured transition, and setting the direction for how the organization gets answers from advertising data.

You will build and scale big data platforms, manage engineers building data pipelines and data lakes, and drive the technical vision for the team's data infrastructure. You hire and grow the Data Engineers, and Software Development Engineers that build this vision. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering depth in distributed data systems combined with proven people management skills to grow and develop a multi-discipline engineering team.

You'll be joining a team that's at the forefront of infrastructure innovation, working on greenfield projects with significant business impact, and building solutions that directly enable PVA teams to move faster and more efficiently.

Key job responsibilities
- Build, lead, and develop a hybrid team of Data Engineers and Software Development Engineers — hiring, ramping, performance, coaching, and career growth across both crafts.
- Own the technical vision and architecture for the team's data platforms, pipelines, and data lakes
- Own end-to-end delivery, operational excellence, and on-call health for the advertising-measurement data platform and its associated software and GenAI systems.
- Set and steward the team's technical direction in partnership with your senior engineers — data architecture and the four-layer lake on the DE side, agent harness, evaluation, and query guardrails on the SDE side.
- Own stakeholder relationships with Prime Video Ads Finance, Product, and partner engineering teams, negotiating roadmap scope and dependencies through the transition.
- Drive the team's AI-enablement charter — the semantics layer and GenAI tooling — from strategy through delivery, and make the DE/SDE resourcing and trade-off decisions it requires.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to align data platform roadmap with business priorities
- Communicate technical strategy and trade-offs to senior leadership

About the team
Prime Video Advertising - Data, Measurement and Insights(“PVA-DMI”) team is a central data and analytics team within the PV-Ads org that plays a pivotal role in fueling the worldwide growth of Amazon’s video advertising business. We own data platform, reporting, dashboards, measurement, and analytical solutions for PV Ads.

Basic Qualifications

- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
